Madrid

After living in Madrid for two and a half years we thought we’d share our favourite spots for you. Madrid has a way of making every moment feel special. And if there’s one thing this city does better than almost anywhere else, it’s food.

Casa Macareno

This is, without question, our favourite restaurant in Madrid. Casa Macareno is a traditional Spanish taberna in the Malasaña the very neighbourhood where we live - a place that offers an authentic glimpse of everyday Madrid life.

Inside you’ll find tiled walls, wooden tables, and an atmosphere that feels timeless. Generations of madrileños have gathered here over cañas and small plates, keeping its spirit alive. And in our opinion, the patatas bravas are the best in Spain, but this is a busy spot, so please book in advance here .

Aarde

If you’re in the mood to dress up, Aarde is located in Madrid’s Salamanca neighbourhood, the city’s fashion hot spot. It boasts a fantastic street-side terraza overlooking the Puerta de Alcalá -perfect for outdoor dining. It’s the kind of place to toast a special occasion, linger over wine, and soak in the city at its most sophisticated.

La Duquesita

La Duquesita is a historic pastelería that specialises in the Palmera — a puff-pastry classic shaped like a heart, caramelised until golden and flaky, often dipped in chocolate. It’s one of Madrid’s most beloved snacks: simple, crunchy, and irresistible with a coffee.

The Library Wine Bar

Perfect for the wine buffs out there. The Library has an incredible selection of wines from around the world, all in a beautiful, intimate Library themed setting. Pair it with dinner at Aarde — the two are just a short walk apart, making for the perfect evening in Madrid.

Brasserie Dani Rooftop

Perched on the rooftop of the Four Seasons, Brasserie Dani is a beautiful spot for drinks with some of the best views in central Madrid. Head up for a cocktail, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the city from above. A great choice for an elegant pre-dinner drink.

Balbisiana

Matthew and Carla’s favourite cake shop in Madrid — and particularly loved for their white chocolate and pistachio tart. This is the couple’s go-to sweet treat and an absolute must-try while you’re in the city.

El Cielo de Montera

A beautiful rooftop spot in the heart of Madrid, perfect for cocktails with fantastic city views. Head up for a drink, take in the skyline and enjoy the lively atmosphere — a lovely place to start an evening.
